Signing Up To A Gym. what to look for

What To Look Out For When Signing Up To A Gym?

While it may have been your resolution to get fit and lose weight in 2020, the New Year signal is a perfect opportunity for gyms to start attracting you with so many promotions and offers.

Gym signups can be empowering but they can also be a complicated web of fast sells and fine print that, despite that free January join up, may lock you in to a contract for far longer than your expected. Some people are happy to fork out more depending on their age and demographic and that’s fine, as long as they understand what they’re signing up for.

Here’s what to look out for to secure your best gym for your needs and budget

Location & facilities. Location is important when choosing a gym as it might discourage you if the gym is too far. One must choose a gym that is close to your working place or home so that you can be on time for any classes and not to be stuck in a jam. Ample parking lots are an advantage when choosing a gym as one does not want to waste time finding a parking lot. Gym also must have proper shower and changing area if you are heading for meeting after workout. Proper ventilation in the gym, lightings and well maintained equipment are important when choosing a gym.

Budget When choosing a gym, one must look at their budget too. If you are new beginner and choosing a gym for the first time you should be vary of lock in contracts. It would be better to start off with going to gyms that you pay as you use. In this way you will not be locked in with a contract if you decide to stop going. If you plan to sign a contract, please read the fine print and make sure you understand what you are signing up for and not to be caught off guard.

Types of gyms do you need? There are 24/7 gyms, standard gyms, strength gyms, crossfit gyms and women-only gyms and each with different offerings. We should always spend time thinking about what works for us. You may need a 24/7 gym because of your working hours or a standard-hour gym because you’re interested in classes. The 24/7 gyms have less fixed costs so naturally they’re cheaper whereas large commercial gyms, with more equipment, cost more. It really depends on what you’re after.

What else? It really depends on what you’re after as there’s really no one size that fits all. There are people who are happy to fork out more for premium service at the gym while other sign up within their budget and needs. Always read the reviews to see what others who have been there have said and always read that fine print.”
